When Autumn McCoy accepted a temporary work contract in Durango, she thought it would be a safe way to add some spark to her existence. She may be getting more than she bargained for when she finds herself the target of impending danger. The outspoken forty-two-year-old isn’t prepared for that spark to ignite flames threatening to engulf every aspect of her life.

Buried under the weight of responsibilities, all interim Chief of Police, Keith Blackfoot, wants is to get back to good old-fashioned detecting. He gets his chance when an encounter with a feisty redhead

seems to incite a wave of arson cases. Although a visit from friend and firefighter, Roman “Chief” Proudfit, provides some direction, he’s left to battle an invisible menace fueling fires that could leave his town—and his heart—in ashes.

Freya Barker has slowly becoming a favorite author of mine – her romances are more sedate in nature; and are mostly about middle age heroes and heroines; who have had a chance to settle into their wants and needs.

Burning For Autumn is the first in a new series and apparently a little crossover with Susan Stoker’s Police and Fire / Badge of Honor world (which tbh; I have yet to read; but my curiosity is kindled with the cameo’s in the book!)

Keith is the interim Chief of Police in Durango – a position he is in reluctantly, for he is no diplomat and the position tends to interfere with what he really wants to do – investigate a string of fires that he is convinced is the work of a serial arsonist!

Autumn is on a temporary assignment in the burn unit in Durango and she honestly loves the job – though it is taking her time to adjust to a totally new surroundings.

Neither Keith nor Autumn are looking for anything serious – but it’s their first meeting, the definitely gets their hooks in them! While they are slowly but surely making their way into a relationship; they start opening up with each other, that dangers comes close and ignites the protective instinct that Keith has towards Autumn comes out to play.

There are numerous reasons to love Freya Barker’s romances – amazing character development, the perfect amalgamation of friends and colleagues, who end up becoming your family, secondary characters, the readers definitely get invested in for their HEAs; suspense plotlines but most of all, realistic adult relationships that many would definitely relate to!

I am so excited for Luna’s HEA; especially with the little sneak peak at the end of the ARC!
