The Truth About Lies (The Truth Duet, #1)

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.

Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.

Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.

Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

The only duets I ever read are from Aly Martinez – have you ever read any by her? Because let me tell you; she is the master of storytelling; an expert at packing an emotional punch with her words, her characters and her story.

Yet there was nothing I could have done to prepare for exactly the kind of journey that The Truth Duet will take me on.

The Truth About Lies is not a sweet love story, it is not even a hopeful one – what it is real, strong and definitely heart burning.

Cora isn’t the normal sort of heroine and unlike any that I have ever read from Aly – she is a survivor.  There is a spine of steel underneath the skin of a woman who everyone underestimates – she is loyal, faithful and would stand in front of a hail of bullets for those she cares about. She is the epitome of a protector and perseverance – especially when you slowly start to get to know that her life is definitely hasn’t been a bed of roses.

On the other hand is Penn from the first page you see his world being destroyed – yet he still remains an enigma. He is magnetic and trust me when I tell you; from the start itself, as a reader you are drawn to every aspect of him, because believe me, there is a core of goodness to him that no matter how hard he tries, he has not been able to erase.

The Truth about Lies is the first book in a duet that is captivating, raw and gritty in its essence. I was captured by the beauty in the writing, the strength of the characters and the plot that is definitely worth falling in a black hole for!

Yes, this ends in a cliffhanger – but it is an ending that I can absolutely live with because I have full faith that Ms. Martinez will do full justice to Penn and Cora.

“One in. One Out.”

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
