ALL A HEART NEEDS (CALLAWAYS #5)

From GoodReads :)

From GoodReads 🙂

Sean Callaway is the black sheep of the Callaway clan, the sibling who refused to follow in the family tradition of firefighting. Instead, he lives his life in music. On the outside, he’s a free-spirited rock star, but on the inside, Sean is haunted by the death of a childhood friend, a tragedy no one knows he witnessed. He’s kept the secret for twenty years. But nothing stays hidden forever…

Jessica Schilling, a young widow, moved to San Francisco to reunite her six-year-old stepson with his long-lost identical twin brother, Brandon. She rents a house just around the corner from the Callaways, and while cleaning out the garage for the previous owner Jessica stumbles upon a very old secret—one that someone might just be willing to kill to keep.

Suddenly, Sean is thrust back into the past. He’s forced to face his most disturbing memories, not only to solve the riddle of the tragedy that ripped his life apart, but also to save the woman he loves…

Review:

Callaways is a family steeped in the code of “to serve and protect”. They don’t just work for it, they live it. In a family filled with firefighters, Sean Callaway bucked the tradition to be a musician. He is now quite a well known muscian, carefree to the rest of the world, yet there are hidden depths to him, that even his own family doesn’t know about.

Straying away from the family legacy wasn’t easy as it led to a unsaid estrangement from his father, who never really understood why he turned his back on his family.

Jessica Schilling has a complicated history with the Callaways (No you don’t need to read the previous book to understand it – a short version is given in this book!) but it’s this exact history and shared siblings that bought her to live near to Callaways.

It is in the story of Nicole and Ryan; Between Now and Forever that Sean and Jessica meet and immediately you realize that there is something special between them, not that they were interested in taking it any further. Complications of family history at its best!

Everything changes, when the one door to the past Sean has always kept locked, bursts open courtesy of Jessica. The house she rents is a reminder of a past that haunts Sean till this day! This means that he can’t ignore what has happened, especially if he wants to have a future. Together Sean and Jessica, go through every evidence of a past that changed Sean’s course of life, if they both want to have a future together.

Honestly, of all the Callaways and their better halves; I loved Sean and Jessica the best. Their relationship bought out the best in each other. I have always heard that “The One” would always want you to strive to be a better person and that’s exactly what I saw in their relationship. They were a perfect fit, but boy did they fight till the end!

The mystery on the other hand, was perfect companion to the romance in this book. Usually what happens with a romantic novel is that either the romance or the suspense tends to overshadow over the other. But here? It was a perfect blend and frankly, I never even realized who the culprit actually was till s/he was revealed (And that is very, very hard to do to a Forensic Psychologist!).

Yes, I loved the whole Callaway Family, but I have to admit Sean will always have a special place in my heart, not just because he was the black sheep of the family, but because no matter how he felt, in the end, he was always a Callaway through and through.
