Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
But this Halloween is different?Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if instead of moping they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?
I have recently been falling in love with graphic novels – and Pumpkin Heads is the latest addition to my favourites in this genre!
Pumpkin Heads was a hilarious adventurous romp of two ‘seasonal’ friends – Josiah and Deja; who only see each other at the pumpkin patch they work at each year during autumn. This year will be the last they ever work together, for they are no moving on to college!
This makes Josiah and Deja a little melancholic at the start of their shift, well mostly Josiah. But this time Deja finally decides that Josiah needs to get his act together and finally work up his courage to ask the girl he has been mooning over for years, out.
Now.. How will they ever do it with them actually do it; if they actually have to work at the post at Succotash Hut – so Deja finally convinces Josiah to abandon their post and go on an adventure throughout the Pumpkin Patch – eating s’mores, getting lost in the maze, trying to catch a thief – their whole adventure encompasses the whole Pumpkin Patch!
The adventure was full of hits and misses, a little bit of their background accompanied by beautiful illustrations that take your breath away! Though, just saying that there didn’t seem to be quite a romantic connection between Deja and Josiah – even if it was predictable where and how their last shift at Pumpkin Patch will end.
