Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he’s cut off all ties to his former life so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how.W
So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face.
But Kaine’s gruff demeanor doesn’t scare her. She’s set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn’t mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband’s betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.
Yet what neither of them suspect is that their no-strings affair will result in the surprise of Piper’s lifetime—and Kaine’s worst fear.
OH MY GOD – just when I think that Ms. Perry has pretty much exhausted all the tried and tested formulas for HEAs, she throws a curve I never see coming – but I had to know how she was going to give a grumpy, hurting hero with a woman who has her own issues with relationships.
Kaine is the grumpy old solitary man who the residents of the small town Lark Cove don’t really know and he likes it that way – it’s been more than three years since his life imploded in the worst way possible and the result was isolation, a way of life that he actually preferred!
Paige is also dealing with implosion of her own marriages and issues that she is actively trying to work towards overcoming – first on her list is moving to the town of her boss, where she feels peaceful for the first time in a long time!
It is attraction at first sight for Kaine and Paige; even though it’s more of a hateful attraction between them, but while neither of them is willing to move beyond the physical, it’s the feelings they start developing for each other that catches them off guard.
With every book, I read, as the story progresses, I end up making my own suppositions, but even though you would think you know EXACTLY what is going to happen, it isn’t going to go with any of your expectations!
