Blog Tour – Review: The Accidental Bad Girl by Maxine Kaplan

Welcome to the Blog Tour for The Accidental Bad Girl by Maxine Kaplan hosted by Jean Book Nerd – check my Review of this action packed YA debut novel on the blog today ❤

After getting caught hooking up with her best friend’s ex on the last day of junior year, Kendall starts senior year friendless and ostracized. She plans to keep her head down until she graduates. But after discovering her online identity has been hacked and she’s being framed for stealing from a dealer, Kendall is drawn into a tenuous partnership with the mastermind of a drug ring lurking in the shadows of her Brooklyn private school. If she wants to repair her tattered reputation and save her neck, she’ll have to decide who she really is—and own it. The longer she plays the role of “bad girl,” the more she becomes her new reputation. Friends and enemies, detectives and drug dealers—no one is who they appear to be. Least of all Kendall.

Okay – right off the bat; I have mixed feelings about this book (and I am hoping that writing this review will help me sort them out!) – but my feelings were not for the plot or the writing style itself but mostly cause of the main character – Kendall.

The first impression you get of Kendall isn’t exactly flattering – but slowly but surely the plot and Kendall herself ends up holding a mirror to the hypocrisy  as well as everything that is wrong with this society!

Kendall; throughout the story; shows an amazing character growth – a girl who has learnt to be strong, indifferent and absolutely strong to handle the obstacles in her path – in short she ends up as a badass!

To be honest; it took me a while to get hooked into the plot line, mostly’cause for the for the first few chapters it actually read like a typical high school drama (drama that I didn’t even have time for the drama even when I was in high school!) yet I still powered through and I am actually glad that I did.

Its a personal suggestion that you go into the book, totally blind – I did and I didn’t regret it even once! In fact, I totally forgot to re-read the blurb when I went into the book on a whim. And considering my own experience, if you take away anything from this review – GO IN BLIND!

The themes in the book are quite dark – blackmailing; slut – shaming, drugs and it takes a mirror to the hypocritical standards held by the society.

The characters; not just Kendall but all the secondary characters are quite well developed; with some twists and surprises that you will definitely not expect; the plot is interesting and action packed. The Accidental Bad Girl by Maxine Kaplan was a wonderful read; even if it did feel a little bit OTT; but definitely an enjoyable read!
