Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts.
When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have.
In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more.
WHERE HAS BEEN WENDY HIGGINS HAS BEEN ALL MY READING LIFE??
I rarely read New Adult books; mostly because this age group tends to get on my nerves; with their inability to balance immaturity with learning growth!
Unknown Trilogy, starts off with Unknown and introduces Amber and her best friend Remy with her brother Tater and his best friend Rylen. Told in Amber’s POV; I was swept away immediately into the world that Ms. Higgins created and pretty much found my newest OTP in Amber and Rylan.
From the start it’s easy to see (actually feel!) the connection between Amber and Rylen – and I had my heart set on them, and the teenage angst (which I sometimes do not like or even understand) kicked me in the heart with every page I turned. AND I LOVED IT!
Then the world began to collapse as an enemy unknown starts to attack their world, their country and their life.
The plot with the writing is the real winner here; even through everything, IT DOESN’T LOOSE PACE – every time you think that it just couldn’t get better; it had me hooked in and didn’t let go!
Oh this was a beautiful start to a trilogy for an author I have tried for the first time; brilliant mixed in with romantic tension, suspense that is not only action packed but brilliantly expressed – and characters you know you are going to fall in love with right from the start. I. AM. IN LOVE. ❤

Being on the run in the desert means food and sanctuary are hard to come by, but Amber Tate and her crew are not about to give up. Not after having so many of the things they love brutally ripped from them by an unknown enemy who sent their world into the apocalypse.
Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities…lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can’t escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.
In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy’s identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.
I completed Unknown and immediately started this second book – and you have no freaking idea how glad I am that I didn’t have to wait between books.
This book picks up right where we left off in Unknown and IT DOES NOT LET UP – everything from the suspense to the action to the danger to the conspiracy – everything is intensely done in the exact amount needed for the second book to survive the dreaded “Second Book Demise” (It isn’t a thing yet, but it should be!).
As for Amber and Rylen – *phew* *fans herself* – their fiery chemistry gains even more foundation in this book, and honestly, I loved the pace of their “relationship” – I am finally loving the slow burn of romances between youngsters like it should be.
But the foundation of the book leans on the bonds of friendship in this group; reminiscent of The Golden Trio; I adored that even without staggering truths unfolding, the bond of friendship and trust only deepened, becoming the very heartbeat of this book (and the series!).
Lastly, even knowing I had Undone (Unknown #3) right where I wanted, queued up to read next, I still was DESTROYED by that ending!

Amber Tate never dreamed their heart-wrenching escape from the enemy’s attack would lead them to the most beautiful place she’s ever seen. Like everywhere else in the world, Elmendorf military base in Alaska has been taken over, but it’s time to take it back—all of it—one base, one city at a time. After losing so much, Amber clings to the one precious person she has left, and vows to sacrifice everything to help save the Earth.
Remy Haines is a lover, not a fighter, so when she finds herself in enemy territory, expected to feign allegiance while gathering intel for the rebel cause, she’s never been more out of her element. Tensions only increase when her feelings for Jacob “Tater” Tate won’t go away, and the enemy’s leader takes an interest in her. She’s torn between what her heart wants, and what she knows she should do. As for what her body needs…well, it’s always had a mind of its own.
CAN TODAY BE THE END OF 2017?
For I want this trilogy to be the last book I read this year – I want to end this year with a trilogy that has taken over my heart, mind, body and soul over the last 27 hours it took me to get through them (I counted each one of them!).
This trilogy is one of the BEST DYSTOPIAN NEW ADULT books I have had the honor of reading this year – Loved every single character right from the first book; Unknown (Read My Review) through the trials and tribulations in the second one, Unrest (Read My Review) – and I stood with them through the conclusion.
The writing is what got hooked me into this series; and it was kept me glued in throughout the marathon reading I did – Ms. Higgins is the master of emotional manipulation, with everything she threw at the characters, they came out right at the top again and again.
Some might have found the plot line a bit convenient (even with my emotional attachment, I can’t stop my inner logic to shut up!); but I adored it. Mostly ‘cause the pacing of the story ends up being constant throughout the trilogy – something that is almost unheard of in series.
Add to the usual POV, is the POV of Amber’s best friend Remy; which was a genius stroke on the author’s side – it bought a fresh outlook to the plot that could have otherwise turned a bit chunky.
All in all, a wonderful conclusion to a trilogy that I requested to review because it was something different and it pretty much delivered, every single way!
