She is a five foot seven long list of things he can’t have.
He is a determined cop, desperate to keep his heart sealed behind his badge.
Michelle is a survivor. With a fresh perspective on life, she trades her tragic past in California for the coastal waters of Charleston. Fueled by a new career as a dispatcher, she’s determined not to let her scars weigh her down. She apologizes for nothing, especially her insatiable need for a certain police officer.
Rowdy is a newly minted sergeant dedicated to his job, but the life of a Charleston police officer has never been more dangerous. With his need to take order of a city spiraling out of control, the last thing he wants is an entanglement with a mouthy dispatcher. But, there’s just one problem. He can’t get enough of her.
As the heat rises between the unlikely pair, so does the tension.
Three months of summer was all it took to shake their foundations, rattle their walls, and bring them crashing down.
It was lust.
It was love.
It was real.
And it would have been perfect . . . if it wasn’t already over.
Note to reader:
This book has several elements and explores topics that some may consider triggers. For mature audiences only. Explicit sex, violence and language.
Kate Stewart writes some of the most versatile books I have ever read – they could be angsty, funny and off the charts steamy; so there is absolutely everything for anyone with different tastes.
But The Brave Line does something absolutely different – it brings you down to your knees, emotionally – it is stunning representation of how versatile human emotions and human beings themselves can be! It not only hits you right in the feels, but it is a stunning example of how talented this author actually is!
This is a TOP FAVORITE of 2017 till now and there have only been a few of those (can count them on one hand – few!) – Take this as an unequivocal recommendation of this book!
This book is a complete standalone; although these characters were introduced in Anything But Minor/Major Love books – Rowdy is April (Major Love!)’s best friend and Michelle, is April’s confident, spunky co-worker. There were sparks right from the start with these two, but Rowdy’s decision to keep his professional and personal life separated, pretty much ended this non-relationship but it never ended their attraction!
Michelle is the foundation of this story – not gonna lie; for a shy introvert like me, it’s very difficult for me to connect with her as a character; but as I got to know her a bit more, my wonder and reverence for her strength knew no bounds. It takes a brilliant and bad-ass woman to go through what she went through and come through it, not closed-off but actually open to life? With a kind heart to the boot? That is not just dazzling, but she becomes an inspiration to me! And not only that, her sarcasm makes a hilarious heroine to have a crush on (And I honestly do!)
Rowdy is a honorable Sergeant of Police; but he has his scars and those scars make him a wounded bear, who honestly can’t let anyone get close to him – and I freaking hated him for it; with the way he treated Michelle at the start, the middle and almost at the end! But like always with Kate’s characters, he is a stupid man, even though he did act like baboon – he owns up to his mistake, and takes the consequences of his actions like a man!
There were times in their relationship; that made my heart hurt, like you wouldn’t believe – but there is one instance that broke me down; a moment where I realized that while I might read to escape reality; but fiction sometimes is nothing but the mirror to reality.
I might have been PMSing when I read this book; but that never means that I didn’t absolutely fall head over heels in love with this brilliant author all over again – this isn’t just a story of road to HEA; what it is a journey two broken human beings took to understand themselves and the feelings they had kept bottled up.
The Brave Line is a stunning representation of what it feels like to triumph over ordeals, tragedies and be open to welcome love whenever it knocks!
