Black Swan Affair by KL Kreig is LIVE!
“This book owned me as I turned page after page, wanting to both savor every beautifully written word and race to the end. Black Swan Affair is easily one of my top reads of the year.” – USA Today Bestselling Author, Meghan March
I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.
The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.
Killian Shepard.
Shep.
We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into a woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.
He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.
He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.
So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.
I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy fucking family.
Love is not a construct. It a feeling, mostly undefined, but majorly it is that part of our very souls; and yet it is the least understood reason for most of our decisions. And somehow K.L. Kreig took everything that is baffling, irritating and pretty much mystifying about love and put it into words that end up ripping up the very fabric of what I understood to be love.
There are different kinds of love.
There’s the dreamy kind you always thought you wanted
And then there’s the steady one you never understood
but the second you let yourself feel it
It’s nothing like you could have imagined in your wildest dreams.
Go into this book blind; really – the blurb gets you interested, but DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU READ THE BOOK. Not just this review, but any review for that matter!
I will not talk about the plot much; for everything is pretty much clear from the blurb (even if you think it is) but still here a recap – Maverick grows up loving two men; one where he’s ‘the one’ for her, her forever, her everything – the other, her best friend; her support, her foundation. Do not for a moment doubt that she doesn’t love both of them, she does – just that definition of love is different for both!
“Pining after someone’s husband is one thing. Pining after someone’s husband when you’re now married- to his brother- is taking immorality to an entirely new level. But that’s me.”
Maverick aka Swan isn’t an easy character to like – there is so much confusion within her, so much grief, but she is steadfast in her beliefs, she is loyal but it is the hypnotic writing style wherein the more you read, the more you start to identify with this woman. How often does it happen that the conflict of feelings for two people play havoc on your inner balance? It isn’t often, but it is gut wrenching to go through that roller coaster!
She is a woman who has loved two men whole of her life – two men who couldn’t be more different to each other – and even though the one who broke her heart, Killian Shephard married her sister and she married his brother Kael Shephard, she still can’t seem to let go of that love.
“where Killian is ruthless,
Kael is compassionate.
Kael is outgoing and chatty, Killian more reserved.
He’s serious to Kael’s fun-loving personality.
And where Killian would apparently do anything for himself, Kael would do anything for me.”
Killian Shephard isn’t going to be your obvious choice for hero – he is ruthless, he is destructive, and even with all the turmoil, he never really respected the wishes of Maverick. But there were times, rare times, that you could see the vulnerable parts, the parts that you could see were in love with Maverick.
Kale Shephard was loyal, captivating and definitely a hero I could get down and dirty with – but most of all, with every action, every word, his love for Maverick showed through. You do not expect that a best friend would end up being the star of you fantasies, but darn it all, if he doesn’t!
“I want to kiss these fucking lips, Maverick. And not a kiss of a boy who has been friends with a girl for almost thirty years. But as a lover. I want to bite and suck and own and devour. Whenever I want. However I want.”
This book tested most of my boundaries; I do not like love triangles, mostly because I am quite confident in my decisions and I really like my characters to be the same – but I JUST COULD NOT STOP READING this book. The writing is hypnotic and mesmerizing – honestly for the hours I spent reading this book; I have no idea what happened in reality! And That so very rarely happens – the writing is the strongest point in the book, for it even makes you forget you had boundaries and start investing in the characters and empathizing with them, so accurately that I honestly felt a little lost after the book ended.
That’s how much I love you. That’s how wound around the very fucking center of my soul you are. It’s the same place you’ll be until I close my eyes and take my last breath. You are rooted in here”- he pounds his chest- “in the bowels of me so far I will never be rid of you. No matter how much I’ve tried.”
You may have a whole lot of reservation about the type of romances that you read, BUT STILL PICK this book up – it isn’t just going to test your boundaries, it will also, and most definitely make you feel – hatred, betrayal, bone deep hurt but it will also make you love, not just the passionate kind of love, but the kind that slowly but surely seeps into your soul, making a home you never realised you were harbouring!
When he walks past, he grabs my hand, telling me softly against my cheek, “He will never love you like I do.”

“Simply Amazing. KL had me from page one and I had to pry my fingers off my Kindle when it was over.” – Winter Travers, Amazon Bestselling Author of The Devil’s Knights Series and The Skid Row Kings Series
I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicous cycle. I love carbs, but there’s love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out, I’m a raving bitch. My iPad and me: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a bad-ass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).
