playbook_amazonMy life revolved around two things. Football and my cock. And not necessarily in that order.

Being the head football coach for a top university in Texas had its ups and its downs.

The ups? Endless women to f*ck.

The downs? The politics that came with the job.

From the moment Aubrey Cain walked into my office, she turned my world upside down. Being forced to have her follow me around for a month was going to be a pain in the ass. Especially since I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her.

The best I’d hoped to come out of this was a few nights with her in my bed. I never imagined she’d be the game changer.

Brett Owens was my assignment.

Head football coach for a top college, bad boy reputation, short temper, and handsome good looks should have scared me off. But I was tougher than that.

From the first words out of his obnoxious, dirty-talking mouth, I knew it was going to be a long month. It wasn’t five minutes after meeting him, he hit on me. If only I had known his blue eyes would haunt my dreams and awaken a desire inside of me I never knew existed.

This was business. There was no way I would be tempted by him no matter how good looking he was or how many things he whispered in my ear.

He was only supposed to be my assignment. Not the man who threatened to destroy both my heart and my career. I would follow along with his playbook for now. But who would end up winning was anyone’s guess.

The Playbook is a stand-alone novel.

My Review (1)
eARC provided in exchange for an honest review

This was my first Kelly Elliot book – and it was hands down the perfect mixture of humour, stubbornness, off the charts chemistry and some of the most beautiful moments I have read in a romance!

Brett Owens is a famous college football coach – one of the biggest ever to be honest, and that means not only does he get a pass to be a playboy, he also tends to be a sexist jerk, especially when it comes to women in the world of men. He also hates media, and definitely isn’t on board when he finds out the he would be followed and interviewed for a whole month, by a woman he is definitely attracted to!

Aubrey Cain is one of the upcoming reporters for ESPN – a male dominated world that she is slowly getting ahead in. She isn’t worried; for she knows her stuff and is definitely on the way to become the best in her field, if she isn’t there already. So when she gets job of interviewing Brett Owens for a month, she is a little concerned with his reputation, but feels that she is strong enough to resist her playboy ways!

Don’t you just love it when the fictional characters are that naïve? 😛

It was a clash of wills right from the start for these two, but that clash hid a sexual attraction that neither of them were strong enough to actually resist! Nor that they actually wanted to, especially when they actually started communicating with each other rather than snarking! It was so easy to fall for these characters, their strength, stubbornness yet their vulnerability showed through each of their actions, but they are humans (even if they are fictional) after all, and their emotions and attraction explode in a relationship that neither of them are ready for.

Brett is not the quintessential alpha male that we usually see in romances – he has his gentler and vulnerable side that he isn’t afraid to show the woman he is falling for and that made him awesome in my book. He was open and definitely the one to jump with both feet in, especially when he realised that Aubrey was “the one”. Aubrey, on the other hand, was a little more reticent and while I could see the feelings that Aubrey had for Brett weren’t something that she had ever dealt with before, it was also easy to see why she made the decisions she did – even if I did not agree with them!

Do both of them make stupid mistakes? Yes, they do. Their choices are some that, I personally would have never been able to make, but as a third party, I could see that these were the decisions that they needed to make to get to the point of being together (yet, I still had to remove .5 stars as a personal choice, not in reflection of the story!).

Kelly Elliott provides us with a romance that was as deceptive as it was brilliant! She made us go in with expectations that were met in a way that her readers did not see it coming – this is a story that not only has humour, two strong and amazing characters, but also had a depth of emotions that *I* at least wasn’t expecting when I went in!

Another author who just made sure that I would stalk her for a long time to come! 😀

Cheers, Pavi
