This was my first ever Sherliee Gray book – and I have to say I am impressed – not only with the plotline and the flawless writing, but the with the kind of characters that Ms. gray wove! I adored hero and heroine’s banter, their flawed characteristics and definitely their chemistry with each other. The romance between them burns out, but it also burns bright – a light that they both need to believe in and their journey is one that I infinitely enjoyed taking with them!

“Yeah, bitch, you see that? That’s how I do it.”

She glanced over to Joe, crazy-assed grin on her face. His big frame was twisted in his seat, eyes locked on her.

“Did you just call me ‘bitch’?”

“Heh, maybe.”

“Your bitch?”

“No, that’s not what…”

“Yours to use and perform lewd, filthy, unspeakable sexual acts on whenever the mood strikes you?”

“Now hang on one…”

“I accept.”

“Christ, you’re nuts.”

“That might be taking it a bit far. Though, women have reported a full-blown religious experience when they’re in close proximity. And yes, sweetness, you can fondle them as much as you like.”

“Idiot.”

“An idiot who has irresistible nuts, apparently.”

Joe Colton is a mechanic with a debt to crime lord – meaning he needs to steal a number of cars so that the debt may be paid, a debt he has taken from his big brother’s shoulders. Joe Colton is a man’s man – he enjoys his women and he definitely enjoys his cars – this clusterf*ck that he is involved in got a bit more messier with Darcy Connor now involved.

Now Joe is a hero that I LOVE reading about – it isn’t just his cockiness, but there is something infinitely more interesting about him that you just can’t but want more from him – it maybe his intelligence, or it maybe his gentleness, or it could even be his cockiness and it could also be a combination of all three – the end result being Joe is EXACTLY the kind of hero that I fall in love with in books!

Darcy Connors has had quite a run of bad luck – and trust me, the author describing her actions in the blurb don’t do her any favours. I went in expecting NOT to like Darcy, especially considering that she ends up sabotaging a good man – but I ended up more than liking her, I ended up sympathizing with her and I ended up feeling every emotion she ever felt. From the start it is quite easy to see that she was just a victim of circumstances like Joe was.

And what made her more endearing to me was open (at least to herself) crush she had on Joe – she might have been screwed up in her head, but she definitely knew that Joe was someone important to her. So what if she was in denial about the depth of her feelings for her!

Another thing that bought my loyalty to her was the love and affection she had for her younger brother – things she did and she would have done to protect him – and that kind of blind devotion isn’t exactly known even in reality.

“She’d go wherever he wanted to take her—do anything to be wrapped in his arms one more time. She needed to feel his warmth, his comfort, and smell his scent. She was addicted to it.”

I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting the angst factor in this book – a bit of humor, a lot of banter and loads of steamy encounters and I would have been content. But the way the author actually handled this romance blew me away! And it went so far as to exceed my expectations, enough to immediately buy the first book in the series!

This is a romance that will have everything you could ever want, hot mechanic, sassy heroine who isn’t afraid kick the hero’s a** and definitely a plot -line that keeps you guessing, even though you already know that everything ends well!
