Welcome to the Review and Excerpt Tour for Devoted (Masters and Mecenaries #10.5) by Lexi Blake hosted by Inkslinger PR ❤
Check out a little sneak peak into this HOT novella and my review, just so you can convince yourself the series you definitely immerse yourself in ❤
Have fun, lovelies ❤
A woman’s work
Amy Slaten has devoted her life to Slaten Industries. After ousting her corrupt father and taking over the CEO role, she thought she could relax and enjoy taking her company to the next level. But an old business rivalry rears its ugly head. The only thing that can possibly take her mind off business is the training class at Sanctum…and her training partner, the gorgeous and funny Flynn Adler. If she can just manage to best her mysterious business rival, life might be perfect.
A man’s commitment
Flynn Adler never thought he would fall for the enemy. Business is war, or so his father always claimed. He was raised to be ruthless when it came to the family company, and now he’s raising his brother to one day work with him. The first order of business? The hostile takeover of Slaten Industries. It’s a stressful job so when his brother offers him a spot in Sanctum’s training program, Flynn jumps at the chance.
A lifetime of devotion….
When Flynn realizes the woman he’s falling for is none other than the CEO of the firm he needs to take down, he has to make a choice. Does he take care of the woman he’s falling in love with or the business he’s worked a lifetime to build? And when Amy finally understands the man she’s come to trust is none other than the enemy, will she walk away from him or fight for the love she’s come to depend on?
Disclaimer: While this book can be read as a standalone, I really wish you would be open to reading the full amazing series of Masters and Mercenaries ❤
Amy Slaten is the sister of Bridget Slaten, whom we met in Cherished, and I had been quite curious about her story (you would be too, if you knew that she had married her gay best friend to over throw her monster of a father from the helm of her family’s company! Whoops! Spoilers!)
But mostly, I was curious in an off beat sort of way, because there is a HUGE STORY ARC that is absolutely KILLING ME RIGHT NOW in this series!! But I really LOVE this series, and I was missing it, so of course I was happy with any story that will get me back in the arms of *IAN* McKay-Taggart and Sanctum ❤
But did that mean I didn’t actually enjoy Amy’s story? There is absolutely nothing that Lexi Blake can write that I wouldn’t ever enjoy. Seriously, that woman can do no story wrong! **How I wish I could meet her**
Flynn Adler is another character whom we met as the step-brother of Mitch Bradford in Adored – yes I know – this family is BIG!!!
Amy Slaten is now finally getting in the swing of things in her professional life, but it’s her personal life that is currently unfulfilled. She has decided to take classes at Sanctum, the BDSM club where her sister sometimes plays – hoping against hope that she will be a bit more than satisfied at the end.
Flynn Adler is a man unsatisfied being the head of his company – so he has decided to go forth ahead with his training as a Dom while trying to figure out a way to undermine Slaten Industries – he knows he will encounter Amy at the classes so decides to fogo them, but that is until he meets her – and starts his deception.
A case of mis-perception and they both end up in hot water – and predictably fall in love iwth each other!
This is a short novella – something that basically whets my appetite, especially considering we get a lot of other background (for this book!) making way for the next book in the series.
I love that I adore every single female protagonist that Lexi has ever written (NOT KIDDING!) – every one of them have been strong, phenomenal and have that something extra special that makes her a perfect fit for the hero in her life – not that she has any need for a hero!
Amy is exactly the kind of heroine I have come to expect from Lexi – strong, sassy and one who doesn’t whither in front of storms.
And Flynn is exactly the Dom, Lexi is famous for – cocky, arrogant, confident but literally stupid when it comes to the matters of heart – but then again, what hero isn’t! 😛
I loved these two together – they are brilliant, but did they want me to shake some sense into them *cough Flynn Cough* but I definitely enjoyed getting back into the steam of things at McKay-Taggart, but did it satisfy my need to know what happens next – temporarily!!
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ .5
He was either falling deeper into her web or she was getting closer to him. It didn’t matter tonight. Tonight, all that mattered was she was here.
“So, how are you really feeling? Will told me I should give you something if your muscles start to ache.” It was the only damn reason he hadn’t attacked her in the shower. Sometimes it took a few hours for the pain to set in. He didn’t want to give her more. He could wait.
Her hand went to his thigh as she moved slightly away from him so she could look at his face. “I feel great. I feel better than great. I am tired though. Long day. Maybe we should turn in.” She frowned. “I don’t have a toothbrush.”
Oh, she of little faith. “I had one delivered along with the prescriptions Will called in for you if you need them. One’s for pain and the other is an anti-inflammatory.”
“I don’t need them.” She sat back and it was the first time since the shower that she hadn’t been touching him. “Where do you want me to sleep?”
“You can take my bedroom.” He probably wouldn’t sleep at all. He would sit out here and work. It was what he usually did at night. He would sit in his perch high above the city and work until it was almost dawn. “The bed is very comfortable.”
“But you won’t be in it.”
This was the moment he’d been waiting for, kind of dreading and desperately anticipating all at the same time. “Not if I think I could hurt you.”
She huffed a little and stood up. “I’ll be back.”
He reached out and gripped her wrist. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“To find a doctor who will write me a note so you’ll have sex with me.”
He couldn’t help but smile at that. She was pouting like a kid who’d lost her favorite toy. This was why he’d pushed her to cry in the shower. He needed this Amy back. His Amy. He’d hated how polite and courteous she’d been when they’d been in public. Oh, she’d allowed him to handle some things, but her smile hadn’t reached her eyes and not a single sarcastic remark had passed those luscious lips of hers. It was wrong and counter to everything he’d come to know about her.
This Amy boldly told him what she wanted and was willing to do whatever it took to get it.
This Amy wanted him.
