ARC Review: From Sanctum With Love (Masters and Mercenaries #10) by Lexi Blake

Another Disclaimer: This series can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest that you don’t because Lexi Blake leaves Easter eggs in every book in regards to the next one 😀

Kai is the resident psychologist for McKay-Taggart security and is also responsible for vetting new members into Sanctum – someone who usually blends into the background, observing everyone around him (and that is an amazing quality for a shrink, let me tell you!). 

The only noteworthy (and the fact that really sticks out) is that Kai is a Sadist – now usually in a BDSM book, you rarely find the hero to be a sadist – someone who enjoys pleasure in pain – mostly ’cause for some that might be the line that crosses into abuse, again, Lexi handles it absolutely perfectly!!

Kori Williams is Kai’s assistant and a woman who has a lot of secrets in her past – a past that is a part of her in the present, but she refuses to acknowledge it mostly since the one thing that gave her pleasure, also ended up, almost destroying her sense of worth. Working with Kai gives her a sense of accomplishment, but she always feels that something is missing and when the attraction between Kai and Kori takes an inevitable turn, she has no choice but to face her past head on!

“We’re all right, baby. We’re okay. This is going to be good. I promise.” Two seconds before he’d been a savage. This was the man who’d marked her so well. He’d made her scream out in pure erotic pleasure and now he wrapped her up in his tenderness. She hugged him, unwilling to let there be any space between them. 

“I know.” He kissed her nose. “You don’t know it yet, but you will. We’re going to be good together.”

For such a nondescript character, Kai sure has a lot of layers to him and honestly, I had really hoped for another character’s book (and Lexi, I mean the twists you just gave us is now making me salivate for the new series you are starting! I NEED TO KNOW!), I had thought my lack of interest would make the book drag on, but NOOOO, this book takes an unexpected turn, for here the focus is on a serial killer, Kai’s family (aka his brother, whose book I really hope to read soon!) and loads of clues not only for the next book, but also for a whole new series and I CAN’T WAIT ! (Really, I need the ARC like yesterday!).

But not only was I surprised with the turn that the plot of this book took, it also was an interesting to see a secondary story arc that keeps you not only guessing, but also leave you with so many loopholes (not for Kai and Kori’s HEA, but for the rest of the characters!) that leaves you wanting for more.

This is  subtler book than the rest, mostly (I think) because of the Sadist factor, but it is also sweeter, tender and totally keeps you wanting more of S&M plots, but honestly, I have my doubts that any other author could ever write a BDSM romance the way Lexi actually does.

I don’t know if you have really read these books till now, but if you haven’t you definitely need – THESE BOOKS ARE ADDICTING, LIKE NEED A REHAB SORT OF ADDICTION – BUT YOU WOULD RATHER HAVE THE NEXT BOOK, BEFORE GOING INTO REHAB! 😀
