My Review (1)

Disclaimer: I received an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review 🙂

Another Disclaimer: This series can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest that you don’t because Lexi Blake leaves Easter eggs in every book in regards to the next one 😀

Never does Lexi Blake fail to amaze me – really. Every time I pick up one of her books, I think to myself “I must have exaggerated her effect on me. The stories couldn’t have been that amazing” and BAM! Then she does it again, every freaking time. She is like this writing goddess who never seems to do anything wrong.

“I wouldn’t want that. Did I blame you? Yes. Was that fair? No, of course not. Do I still blame you? I don’t blame you for what happened, but I blame you for everything that happened afterward. I blame you for trying to be some kind of vigilante when I needed you to be my husband.”

Alex and Eve were once happily married, happily so in a D/s relationship that worked for them. They believed that they would last forever, until a bogeyman came and ripped them apart like paper.

Alex and Eve worked with the FBI – Alex as a cocky Agent and Eve as a profiler. They were on a case to catch one of the most sadistic killers of all, when everything went to the crapper. Not only did Alex lose himself, he failed the one person whom he should have protected with every fiber of his being.

Eve paid the highest price of Alex’s professional arrogance – she lost not only her husband, but a part of herself that she believed she will never get back.

But do they move on? Nope. They still play together, but Eve still denies the basic connection that they both crave with each other – but when their past comes rearing back, they both have to decide whether being with each other will always take second place in their lives.

“We would have grown together. We would have changed and evolved because I would never let it fall apart. We were stupid kids when we got married, but it was real and true and it should have been forever.”

I don’t usually go with second chance romances, mostly because the reason miscommunication is mainly the reason why the protagonists don’t work out the first time, and I abhor the simple mistakes people make even if they believe to be in love.

And that’s exactly what happened with Alex and Eve as well – but here it was also compounded by my curiosity to know the reason why these two work together even after breaking up (or rather divorcing each other).

Their relationship, to be honest, is purely that of pain in the pain. It only packs a punch, but it is painful to read about how hopeful and happy their lives were before everything was destroyed. Both Alex and Eve love each other so much that it was a sacrilege they couldn’t move towards each other after the tragedy rocked their lives.

It is easy not just to fall in love with Alex and Eve but pretty much ship them throughout their relationship in this book. Eve is not only a strong woman, but she is also a woman who is sure on what she needs and wants in her life and it doesn’t take her long to understand the mistakes that were made by BOTH of them in their past.

Alex on the other hand, is a typical Dom, believing that protecting his sub, his wife was his duty and he pretty much failed in that. It took Ian metaphorically kicking his ass for him to understand where he actually went wrong in the past. But does that mean, he doesn’t actually makes mistakes? Of course he does, but now he even with those mistakes, he pretty much holds on to Eve with everything in him.

Lexi Blake delivers another amazing installment in the M&M series, with amazing plot twists, but also understanding the subtle differences among the protagonists, and how they would handle the life’s challenges thrown at them!

“I can let go of the twenty-three-year-old idiot who didn’t realize just how much he could love you. I can. He’s gone. I can let go of the man who was so tied up in his own guilt that he didn’t really see you for years. But I will never let go of the eighty-year-old man who will hold your hand until the day he dies. I will fight for that old man. I will never let go of him.”

Ian Taggart and the whole McKay-Taggart Security team return in Love and Let Die.

A Tragic Love Story

Charlotte Dennis’s mission was clear: distract and misdirect CIA operative Ian Taggart by any means necessary. If she failed, she would never see her sister again. With her training, it should have been simple, but after one night in Ian’s arms, she knew that saving her sister would mean losing the man of her dreams.
Ian was tracking a terrorist when he met the beautiful American daughter of a Russian mobster. His instincts told him Charlotte was trouble, but his body craved her like a drug and his heart would not be denied. She took his ring and his collar. For once he was truly happy. But as he closed in on his target, her betrayal cost him his mission while her sacrifice saved his life. As she died in his arms, Ian vowed he would never love again.

A Dangerous Reunion

For six years, Charlotte has thought of nothing but returning to her husband, her Master. Working in the shadows, she has devoted herself to earning a chance to reclaim her place in Ian’s life. But forgiveness isn’t a part of Ian’s vocabulary.
Nothing is more important to Ian Taggart than his new mission. But the information he needs is firmly in the hands of the woman who betrayed him. To catch his most dangerous prey, Ian will have to let Charlotte back into his life. As the hunt takes them to some of the world’s most exotic locations, the danger grows and their passion reignites.

Will Ian forgive his wayward submissive…or lose her again?

My Review (1)

Disclaimer: I received an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review 🙂

“Halves of a whole. Soul mates. Somewhere along the way, Ian had become the angel on her shoulder. Oh, he was a cranky angel, but it was his voice she heard when she was tempted to follow in her father’s footsteps and burn the world down around her. She’d only known violence and anger before Ian Taggart. And she owed him more than her life. She settled in and prayed he could forgive her.”

I adored Ian since the moment he was introduced in this series aka as the head of Taggart-McKay Security services – he is like the walking talking sarcastic pool of comebacks who belives himself to be the hardest and coldest tool around – but only ends up being the one who is the most adorable of all.

And no, don’t for a moment think that he won’t cut you in half for suggesting that he is soft – but he is, especially when it comes to family and family is what he has made of his company. He might grumble a lot, he might come off as the most cold-hearted SOB you would have had the pleasure of meeting, but he will go to any lengths, to the ends of the earth for those whom he loves. His brand of loyalty is non-negotiable, enviable and absolutely certain.

So I was more than worried for nothing but the best would do for my Ian. Turns out, I should have never even thought of worrying, for Lexi Blake delivered the best partner, a partner I couldn’t have thought to have imagined for him.

“If it walks like a Dom and delivers orders like a Dom, it’s usually a Dom. If he’s brutally sarcastic, then he’s my Dom.”

Charlotte Taggart is a ghost – and is now back from the dead, literally. Now if I had to ship my precious Ian with a woman, she would lost that fight with Charlie – because she would have had a cat fight with her and totally kicker her tushi – that’s how perfect she is for Ian.

It’s hard not to like Charlie, in fact I fell for her the moment I started reading her POV. She comes off as this amazingly confident woman who is out to get her man, but she has this vulnerable side to her, that she now shows off carefree to her Ian, knowing that she needs to bare it all, for him to ever trust her again.

Ian and Charlotte are by far my favorite couple in this series, and honestly, I look forward to their interactions in the ext books and trust me, you’ll believe it too – for they are my ideal couple!! 😀

“Don’t talk,” Ian commanded between gritted teeth. “I don’t need a running commentary.”

“But I can do both.” She was good at multitasking, and there was really only one way to keep Ian on task or he would go off on one of his arctic, curse-filled rants that tended to make everyone around him dive for cover. “Jesse Murdoch shot me.”

Ian grunted a little, his hips bucking slightly. “I knew there was a reason I liked the kid.”

She rolled her eyes. “Nice.”

Broken by betrayal, one woman holds the secret to his redemption…

An agent broken

MI6 agent Damon Knight prided himself on always being in control. His missions were executed with cold, calculating precision. His club, The Garden, was run with an equally ordered and detached decadence. But his perfect world was shattered by one bullet, fired from the gun of his former partner. That betrayal almost cost him his life and ruined his career. His handlers want him to retire, threatening to revoke his license to kill if he doesn’t drop his obsession with a shadowy organization called The Collective. To earn their trust, he has to prove himself on a unique assignment with an equally unusual partner.

A woman tempted

Penelope Cash has spent her whole life wanting more. More passion. More adventure. But duty has forced her to live a quiet life. Her only excitement is watching the agents of MI6 as they save England and the world. Despite her training, she’s only an analyst. The closest she is allowed to danger and intrigue is in her dreams, which are often filled with one Damon Knight. But everything changes when the woman assigned to pose as Damon’s submissive on his latest mission is incapacitated. Penny is suddenly faced with a decision. Stay in her safe little world or risk her life and her heart for Queen and country.

An enemy revealed

With the McKay-Taggart team at their side, Damon and Penny hunt an international terrorist across the great cities of Northern Europe. Playing the part of her Master, Damon begins to learn that under Penny’s mousy exterior is a passionate submissive, one who just might lay claim to his cold heart. But when Damon’s true enemy is brought out of the shadows, it might be Penny who pays the ultimate price.

My Review (1)

Disclaimer: I received an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review 🙂

We have seen some glimpses into Damon Knight, in the previous books – but it is at the end of THE BEST BOOK EVER that we get even a better glimpse of Damon and his life.

“Dying was a messy business.”

Left to die by the one man he trusted beyond measure rocked his world and his ability to trust again. On medical leave, he has had problems, yet is determined to be back in the field, because that’s all he has left in his life.

But he isn’t going in his mission – left to babysit him, is a mousy analyst – whose only excitement comes from the fact that she works at the CIA and even that is shrouded by the fact that she can’t even tell anyone (sigh!). She had always been attracted to Damon, but he had never given her the time of the day.

Damon, on the other hand always noticed Penny but never did actually act on that attraction believing that he wasn’t god enough for her. Thrown together for a case where they need to act on their desires,  is a sign from the universe.

“Sometimes it’s all about finding the person who won’t let you go dark. When you find that person, you can’t let them go.”

Let’s just be honest, Ian is a hard act to follow (I can absolutely imagine him preening at this statement),  but I really the subtleness in the book. Mousy heroines are not my cup of tea, mostly because it’s hard to imagine them as confident woman later on in the story, but Penny definitely nailed it. Not because she looses her mousiness, she grows into that subtlety and enjoys the the complete support with a lack of pretentiousness that she gives Damon is not only endearing, but is also one of the most healthy relationship etiquette I have come across in romances.

Damon, on the other hand, might be a hotshot agent, but he definitely runs scared when it comes to personal relationships. And yes you understand the reason why, and trust me, Penny just had to love him for him to understand that sometimes love lasts forever, and that you just need to patient enough for love to cross your path 🙂

“Say yes to the one thing that frightens you, that intrigues, that you think you can’t do. Say yes and don’t look back. It will or it won’t be, but you’ll never know until you say yes.”
