Delaney, a professional bodyguard, has spent years trying to prove herself in a male dominated industry. Now she’s facing her greatest challenge yet.
Bad boy billionaire Jax Shields has made plenty of enemies on his climb to the top, but being in the wrong place at the wrong time has put his life at risk. Now he’s putting his life in the hands of Delaney and her team. He demands the best in everything, and he doesn’t think she has what it takes to protect him. He’s also made it clear he’d rather have her on her back then covering his. Will Delaney be able to prove herself to the most arrogant—and devastatingly handsome—man she’s ever met?
**Hard To Forget is a full-length standalone romance with a HEA**
Disclaimer: I received an eARC of the book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is my second Bella Jewel novel – Hard to Break (Alpha’s Hearts #2) being my first, which I definitely liked.
So I had high expectations from this book as well – and I am glad that it met my expectations *after a bit of a scare*
Delaney is a female bodyguard and she has fought hard for that position – fighting against stereotypes, her colleague’s scorn and not to mention, her client’s mistrust of her abilities.
I liked Delaney – it’s hard not to, you know – for her struggle is exemplified for every woman who ever has to fight tooth and nail to achieve success that sometimes comes so easy to the male sex! She is gritty, loyal and fiesty – but hasn’t lost touch with her emotional side, but it is a side that she keeps private and contained.
Jax is a manwhore with money – The deadliest combination available – oh and lets not forget a douchebag with sexist overtones! And I absolutely ahted him at first – he didn’t amke liking him any easier, epsecially for the first half of the book – and I have to admit, that had me intrigued, because it’s mostly the female protagonists that I can’t seem to connect to and here I am, basically hating the ground that Jax even walks on, virtually. And suddenly, without even a hint, i started liking him – it happened gradually and so slowly but I have never had a character do such a huge u-turn for me and I freaking loved it!
And the other thing? There is absolutely no sense of connection and attraction between Delaney and Jax at the start of the story, so it seems like the attraction and the sleeping together mostly came out of nowhere for me – hence the 4 star rating from me!
But the plot itself was interesting, and absolutely intriguing – where the mystery is revealed fairly early on – it is the characterizations that are more of the focul point in this story and I loved focusing on the characters more than the story – but that doesn’t really mean that there weren’t twists and turns that kept me on my toes – there definitely were!
Honestly, Ms. Jewel is getting better and better with every new book and now I am actively looking forward to reading more from her 🙂
