Two years out of college, Angelica Bondesan spends her time working as a barista, keeping in touch with her prodigal brother, and trying to figure out how to bridge the gap with her father, a wealthy real estate developer. But all of that changes the night she’s kidnapped. Thrown into a windowless room, Angelica is positive there’s been some kind of mistake — until she meets Nico Vitale. Gorgeous and frightening, Nico became the boss of New York City’s Vitale crime family after the execution style murder of his parents two years earlier. Since then he’s turned the old-school mob into a sleek, modern army of ruthless men who understand that physical violence — while always an option — isn’t the only way to get what you want. Now Angel is forced to face the truth; Her father is not the man she believed him to be. Nico Vitale is dangerous, possibly lethal. She is falling in love with Nico Vitale
This is the first time I am reading a book wherein the hero is still seeped in the world of crime. I have always had a soft spot for guys who have turned their back on the world of crime – basically reformed bad boys who have made the right choice, the difficult choice. And I had honestly believed this would be one of them (Yes, I know the blurb says he is the Crime Boss but a girl can hope right?).
The story starts off with Angelica going off about her normal boring life – waitressing at a diner, when she is kidnapped by a man with a gun! While she fights bravely, she is kept under lock and key till she meets Nico Vitale – the head of the Vitale family. This meeting starts off the end of everything she knows about herself and her family.
Angelica is brilliant. She is strong, loyal and absolutely relatable. She takes a bad circumstance and makes sure she survives anyway that you can (Spoiler: there is no non consensual sex in this book!).
Nico Vitale is the head of the Vitale Family – one of the Crime Families of New York. He took over the family when his parents are murdered. He has turned around the business of rape, plunder, robbery to a sophisticated crime family that has it’s own code of honor. But that doesn’t mean that he is weak or even merciless and he definitely hasn’t forgotten the murder of his parents or his need for revenge.
But what both Nico and Angelica didn’t figure in their plans was each other!
This story is beautiful – keeping aside the fact that there is a hints of Stockholm Syndrome – the story of Nico and Angelica really touches your heart. They both have preconceived notions about each other and it was heartwarming to see how they try and get the real picture about each other!
Told in dual POV’s – we get the whole story and that finally gives me closure though not in the normal way (because the story ends in a cliffhanger!) and I can’t wait to read the next book in the Series – Fearless (Yes, I already joined that Blog Tour :P).
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
If you love the Alpha Male with hints of that criminal element, then this definitely is your pick. Also, if you love serials and are okay with a cliffhanger then definitely pick this book up 😀
